Next year kindergarten Čigra is celebrating
jubilee, our first 10 –year anniversary. I am very
proud of our work because We have hitherto proved
to be a serious partner to parents, city of Zagreb
and community. We have matured into a institution with quality education, providence and care for our youngest members and an excellent pre-school education. A place of friendship and children's creativity. We have the status, tradition and motivation for further progress. We are highly devoted to the calling that We have chosen as well as to the customers, employees, community and environment. As the owner I feel that there is still much room for refreshments, improvements and additions. 2000. – The Owner's dream becomes reality. Playroom
Čigra is opened on Crnčićeva 17.
2002. – We've become an institution-one of the first
private kindergartens in Zagreb.
2003. – We started working on two new locations (Ravnice
and Siget) and are among the largest private
kindergartens in the City.
2005. – We are signing co-operation with the Hypo-group
and becoming corporate kindergarten.
2006. – A new kindergarten Čigra is opened in Hypo-

2009. – We begin to prepare delicious meals in

Nursery rooms with their furniture and equipment are adapted to the youngest children .Our activity centers are abundantly equipped with didactics and other stimulating facilities , children can choose when and how much time they want to spend in their favorite activities.
Čigra's curriculum for toddlers is designed to make the play and activities stimulate children in adopting new skills through all areas of development: socio-emotional and personality development, cognitive development, language and communication development, expression and creativity,and physical and psycho motor development.
Bearing in mind the characteristics and psychological conditions of children's development, characteristics of educational groups, actual children needs and Programmatic orientation of education of preschool children, within the nursery curriculum educators are conducting, among others, some given topics: colors, my body, clothing and footwear, clean and dirty (clean teeth, clean hands), fruits and vegetables, animals and seasons.
Our approach to children is in a way so they feel loved, accepted and protected, it allows them to express their abilities, bearing in mind the characteristics of each individual. Children impressions and interests are the starting point of our work.
Toddler groups are counting 14 (two educators) to 18 children (three educators). Group size determines the surface area of the premises where children reside.
Čigra's curriculum for kindergarten is designed in a way to encourage children through play and series of activities to adopt new skills through all developmental areas and major emphasis is given to:
• Initiation of social skills,regulation and expression of emotions,
development of independence and self-esteem, creation of a value
system and a positive self image development.
• Development of sensation and perception, creation of concepts and
insight into connections and relationships between objects and
phenomena, development of thinking and problem solving skills,
development of attention, concentration and memory.
• Development of articulation, vocabulary and language, development
of communication systems and various forms of expression-speech,
theatrical, artistic, musical...
• Development of physical mobility in all the basic and natural forms
of movements, development of fetching and handling and
development of specific motor skills.
Through planned and designed organizational and material conditions,set of activities,cooperation with experts,parents and other associates outside the kindergarten, within the kindergarten curriculum educators are conducting this given topics: this is me, my family, health, etiquette, traffic, emotions, seasons, plants and animals, occupations, time and space, ecology, science in kindergarten, Zagreb, my homeland, geography and astronomy for children...
PROJECTS AND PROJECT LEARNING
All children of kindergarten age throughout the year, depending on interests of children, participate in joint projects.
The project is a series of activities in which children deeply study a given topic or a problem. It may last several days, weeks, depending on the age of the children and the nature of the topic. Parents often join the project offering their advice, knowledge and interesting materials.
PRESCHOOL PROGRAM
The goal of the preschool program is to provide a preschool child, in the year before school, with activities and the environment in which he or she will be able to develop to the highest level all of his or her personal potential, meet his or her personal interests and thus acquire the knowledge, skills and develop habits that will enable him or her to successfully adapt to the school.
Games and activities are conducted daily with preschoolers to help them exercise pre-reading and writing skills,the basis of mathematics,graphomotor skills,independence,recognizing potentially dangerous situations and achieve emotional maturity for school.
Čigra children adopt easily into the new environment,they have developed working habits ,they easily accept new challenges and are responsible.
courageous, responsible, they use acquired knowledge without fear,
they can control their behavior, they have confidence in their
educators, they are playful, share their ideas and opinions, they
listen and empathize with others.
They know many areas better than their peers, are accustomed to
work in groups, they listen and implement instructions, search and
request information and knowledge.
CARE
Children at the nursery age require proper care during the day because any deviation from it can lead to disruption of health with such a small child. Proper care includes a sufficient number of diaper changing, use of gentle cleansing wipes, wash in mild soap and nurturing baby skin with cream.The order and quantity depend on each child individually. In agreement with parents we use special concoctions on children with very sensitive skin (atopic dermatitis).
PREVENTION
Prevention is the sequence of procedures and protocols used in a way to avoid some events from happening.That primarily refers to the kindergarten's firm stand that sick children cannot be in the collective.
Any medications and remedies in kindergarten are not possible (except for chronic diseases, in agreement with parents and physicians). In our kindergarten large-scale morbidity is very rare.
With protocol for entering kindergarten that applies to all staff, guests and children we ensure a high hygienic standard.
Hand washing with colorful applications are a daily opportunity for education,for both children and adults.
Washing teeth in our kindergarten starts very early,and dental check-up from year to year shows a noticeable decline in caries among children.
Proper nutrition is also prevention of overweight and caries among children as well as precondition for proper development of child's body.
Food is adapted to children in quantity, composition and shape.Two fruit servings a day, dairy meal, bread, animal proteins and fish, vegetables fresh or cooked. We prefer chicken, turkey, beef, fish, grains (barley,millet), butter and jam with less sugar, homemade cakes and stewed fruit, fresh salad, dark bread. Water is available all the time during children's stay in kindergarten. For children with individual needs we implement food that is acceptable to them.
For better and healthier environment kindergarten collaborates with the Department of public health, Zagreb, who examine preparation and distribution of food over all of our facilities.
WHAT IS COOPERATION WITH PARENTS?
Situation: after you have spent, at best, 8 hours at work and 1 hour driving,you ask your 5-year old what he or she did in kindergarten and he or she says :"Nothing!", before it gets dark before your eyes, ask the educators, check your e-mail, read notices on the notice boards. There is a lot of information that is easily accessible.
CONFERENCE AND ASSOCIATION
Introductory conversation to enroll in kindergarten includes all details about the child's growth and development, from birth to enrollment in our kindergarten. Conversation is held between child's parents and pedagogue, health manager and, in most cases, child's educator to be.
Parents' meetings are usually held few times a year; they include topics that are current in the group and kindergarten.
Consultations are a monthly individual meetings with child's educators where parents can get answers to all questions regarding the upbringing of their child.
Thematic workshops are gatherings in which children and parents join in activities on a given topic.They are held two or three times a year.
Tribunes are meetings in which we host subcontractors who elaborate topics that are interesting to parents.They are organized according to interests.
Children's products fairs always serve as a way of collecting funds for predetermined goals. Often the goals have humanitarian character. In that way we help to those in need.
NOTIFICATIONS
"How I spent the day" is a written report that is given to parents on the way home.This report is given for nursery and secondary groups. For the kindergarten groups review of the daily activities is given on the notice board of the group. It contains 4-5 basic activities of the current day.Let this be a topic for further conversation with your child.
Written notifications for various events can be found on groups' notice boards.The same information is directly sent to the parents' e-mails.
Menus are on the notice boards as well and are always accompanied with smaller formats that parents can take home.
NEWS FROM THE KINDERGARTEN, MEMORIES
Photos of children's activities, field trips and visits are regularly updated and can be viewed and downloaded from the web photo albums.
Web journal "In Čigra's nest" with an overview of important events and activities and other interesting information, has been published for the third year in a row.

When leaving our kindergarten for school each child gets his or her development folder -sort of a scrapbook that follows a child since the first day he or she started kindergarten.
At the end of each year parents fill in survey about their satisfaction with programs and services.
"Parent in a group" - every parent, in agreement with educators, can spend few hours in his or her child's educational group. Activities that are carried out are prearranged with educators.

The goal of learning foreign language at an early age is to provide children with an opportunity of meeting a new language and creating a sound base for the continuity of learning foreign language in school education.
In Čigra English language is implemented, as an addition to the basic program, in secondary and senior kindergarten groups. English program is conducted twice a week by trained educator Tanja Banfić. Throughout the week children use English within a group in relation to the content of the program as well.
Basic method of learning is through games,oriented activities,research and acting.
Virtually inexhaustible energy that preschool children have is best to focus on something positive and beneficial for them. Sports program is the right way to do this. It's held twice a week under the guidance of coach trained to work with children.
If you want your child to discover his or her talent or just has a good time and learn something new you can enroll your child in afternoon's workshops: music, Italian, English through drama, rhytmics, choir "Zagrebački mališani" (at Ravnice facility).
Throughout the year we organize short sports programs with contractors - swimming, skating, tennis, rollskating, skiing...
